Roof Trusses- NAS Jacksonville, FL

This project involved a complete structural renovation of existing wooden bowstring trusses and columns in Building 163 and Building 164. These buildings are registered under the State Historical Preservation Officer (SHPO) and were in total approximately 200,000 square feet of total renovated space. Structural repair work was conducted on 164 of the 180 total trusses in both buildings. The buildings were fully occupied during the renovation, and it was done in phases to accommodate the needs of the occupants. The project included the requirement to provide complete engineered shoring to support the building during repairs to individual trusses. Also included minor roofing, architectural, electrical, fire alarm, and security system work in support of the truss repairs.

Work details for the repairs to timber bowstring trusses included replacement/retrofit of damaged truss components (top chords, bottom chords, vertical and diagonal web members, and column kickers), remediation of delaminated top chords, replacement of timber spaced columns, installation of end plates to the tie rod repair system, replacement of damaged tie rods, and tensioning of tie rods. Work also included in-kind replacement of monitor framing, wall and roof sheathing, and roof membrane repair where necessary to facilitate other work, temporary relocation and support of the utilities supported by the roof framing system.
