Demo Phase 13 Silver Flag Lagoon, Tyndall AFB, FL

Reasor Building group disposed of approximately 260,000 gallons of hazardous lagoon water containing PFOS/PFOA. After the water had been removed from the lagoon, the liner was removed along with vent pipes, two lift station vaults located on the northeast corner of the lagoon and piping capped where it entered the construction site. Piping associated with the lagoon outside of the construction site was abandoned in place. RBG demolished the lagoon, fence, cap utility lines, and returned to natural grade and state the Silver Flag lagoon. Once soil and water characterization have been completed, RBG began work by installing erosion control and clearing vegetation from the existing earthen berm and then removed approximately 650 LF of fencing. The sand and gravel associated with the vent system remained in place and was mixed with the soil from the berm. Once the referenced structures and piping had been removed, soil from the earthen berm was utilized to fill the lagoon. At the completion of work, the site was restored using sod.

The fire suppression work involved demo of an entire existing fire suppression and fire alarm system, providing new water lines into the building by cutting concrete slab and 2′ thick walls, installing a 100ms response time Deluge fire suppression system, building and installing a new pump house adjacent to the existing building, new hydrants, new 300 gal pressurized tanks at 200 PSI, and a Pyrotech flame detection system.
